Frequently Ask Questions

Swagattam stands for Socially Welfare, Aspiring, Generous Activities & Transformation To Ample Mayurbhanj. We are a grassroots non-governmental organization (NGO) headquartered at Ward No. 4, Udala, Mayurbhanj, Odisha. We work at the intersection of environmental conservation, women's empowerment, tribal development, and sustainable livelihoods.

    • Vision: "An ideal human society — stress-free, equitable, and in harmony with nature." We envision a world where every individual lives with dignity and communities are self-reliant.

    • Mission: "Working by the people, for the people, with the people — for environmental protection and transformation."

Swagattam was founded by Mr. Saroj Kumar Panda, a retired government school Headmaster, social reformer, and community leader who dedicated 30 years to shaping young minds. After retirement, instead of resting, he chose to scale his classroom to the real world. He is supported by his wife, Mrs. Annapurna Panda, who serves as the Co-Founder and General Secretary, managing the daily administrative operations and community mobilization.

Part of our Swagatam Green Schools Mission, this initiative ensures that children don't just plant a tree—they adopt it. Each sapling is planted alongside a personalized board featuring the child’s name, the tree species, and their school. This instills a lifelong sense of responsibility and environmental ownership in young hearts.

Our plantation sites are strategically located near the Simlipal Tiger Reserve buffer zone, one of India’s most ecologically sensitive regions. We have planted and successfully monitored over 500 trees across more than 15 government schools in Mayurbhanj to restore vital green cover.

Through our “Skill to Earn” and Similipal Initiatives, we mobilize rural and tribal women into active Self-Help Groups (SHGs). We have directly reached over 200 women, helping them open bank accounts, build collective financial savings, understand their legal rights, and access government welfare schemes for the first time.

Under our campaign “Shikshit Beti, Sashakt Bhavishya”, our founder personally visits government schools to motivate teachers and mentor students. Our primary focus is on girl-child retention beyond Class 5, the critical juncture where poverty and systemic issues cause the highest female dropout rates in tribal heartlands.

Also known as Swachh Simlipal, this is a sustained weekly commitment where our volunteers clear plastic waste, clean public drains, and spread door-to-door awareness about waste segregation in Udala town and nearby villages to build civic responsibility.

No. Mr. Saroj Kumar Panda and Mrs. Annapurna Panda take absolutely no salary or monetary recognition. Their work is entirely voluntary, driven purely by deep sincerity and a lifelong commitment to social reform.
